There’s a lot of Peter Sellers in this issue celebrating his centenary, but first…

This Cultural Life – Pete Townsend says, at about 9:40 in, that he heard ‘the first attempts at rock and roll’ on The Goon Show’. ‘Ray Ellington was a big
fan of black rock music and he used to play rock songs on The Goon Show.’ An area not explored before by GSPS?…

Eddie Murphy as Inspector Clouseau in The Pink Panther. Peter Sellers portrayed the bumbling detective in the original Pink Panther series. When
the actor passed away in 1980, the series was rebooted with Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau in 2006, but the movie was poorly received. Nearly 20 years later, Eddie Murphy has confirmed he is due to take over for a new, version of the detective.

MICHAEL BENTINE
A fabulous cartoon film made for BP (British Petroleum) in 1960. The ‘made by’ list includes Bob Godfrey… didn’t he make some animations for ‘Fred’? Fab music by Frank Cordell and Script by Michael Bentine and Dick Lester. IMDb have Michael Bentine listed as ‘star’ of the film and also as ‘voice’. Recognition is best in the clip of ‘the professor and test pilot of early aeroplanes’. Put ten
minutes by to watch it and another ten minutes to watch it again.

Elton John talks about why he bought that big bulk of Goon Show scripts all those years ago. And a few years later he let GSPS borrow them to have
them professionally digitised… for preservation and ‘in case’. I was sent this two years ago, but didn’t use it… don’t know why… sorry.
