Goon Songs

Back in the day, the Goon Show characters recorded and released a number of songs. The best known are “I’m Walking Backwards for Christmas”, “The Ying Tong Song”, “Bloodnok’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Call” and “The Raspberry Song”.

There’s a song that I recall
My mother sang to me.
She sang it as she tucked me in
When I was ninety-three.

As producer Marcel Stellman explained to us, Harry Secombe was a recording artist in his own right and was contracted to Phillips. He wasn’t allowed to sing on these recordings as they were released under the Decca label, so he just spoke his lines and blew raspberries instead.
