Until recently, many Goon Show episodes were available to stream worldwide through BBC Sounds. Since 30th March 2025, that number was reduced drastically, and before long only the shows which have been aired on Radio 4 Extra in the last 30 days will be available. What’s more, the BBC has announced that access to BBC Sounds for overseas listeners is due to end on 21st July 2025. It will be replaced by a restricted service on,BBC.com/audio which, we think, will only carry Radio 4 and the World Service.
You can check the BBC Sounds Goon Show Home Page to see what’s currently available, and our page monitoring it is here. Some of these broadcast shows have been edited down somewhat, for various reasons. The GSPS keeps a copy of the fullest version of every available show.
There are alternative sources to stream Goon Show episodes for those who subscribe to paid-for services. Spotify subscribers can find 13 volumes of the Goon Show here though, sadly, there’s one volume missing. Apple Music subscribers are luckier, all 14 volumes are available here, and they’re also available on YouTube Music here.
GSPS members can access the Encyclopædia Goonicus, which features reduced audio quality recordings of all the available shows, and much more detailed listings. It includes background information, technical details, original scripts and transcribed scripts (even for the shows which don’t have audio recordings). It also incorporates the Annotated Goon Show, which has several book’s worth of pages with detailed notes about all aspects of the show, courtesy of Paul Winalski and much, much more from the GSPS archives.
