This show has a fair claim to be the first Goon Show proper – the familiar format of a single plot with recurring characters, Bluebottle is killed but remains alive, elaborate sound effects and lots of explosions – all the trademarks of the show as it came to be remembered in the late 1950s. The show also contains the first mention of the “rosewood upright with the brass candlesticks”.
